Wednesday - 7/11/12 - Abbey Road

Wednesday - 7/11/12

I'm feeling really good about making the commitment to the daily routines.  It's one of those "today is the first day of the rest of your life" days!  You know, when you feel anything is possible because everything starts now!

I've set everything else aside and I'm working on posting a things to eBay.  I feel good about that too.  I've posted the kids dinosaur shoes and the kids monster feet slippers.  Now I'm working on posting the camera I bought for resale.

I've checked Google maps.  It says I'd have to leave a half hour earlier to use the closet bus stop.  There's no way I'll be ready for that.  The regular bus stop it is!

I'm having fun packing!  After work, I'm meeting Scott at Hart Park in Orange.  They have free concerts in the park durring the summer.  The group tonight is "Abbey Road."  They're a Beatles tribute band.  I'm packing home made stew, bread, some nectarines, a picnic blanket and a jacket.  I tie my jacket and picnic blanket to the top of the backpack.  I think I'm ready!  Oh and I'm late!  I'm going to have to go to the alternate stop.  I don't think I'll make it even then.

I'm waiting at another light.  It's taking forever to change.  This is the third.  There's no way I'll make the bus.

I'm at the stop.  I put down my things and move next to the building to sit in the shade.  The only way to get shade here is to sit up near the Galaxy burger building.  The smell of cooking grease and hamburgers fills the air.  I really don't want to be in this, but I don't want to get extra sun either.  I check with Google maps, just to see what time I'll get to work.  I haven't missed the bus!  It's supposed to come any minute!  Wonderful!

The bus is full.  Standing room only.  Lots of kids.  I guess everyone's going to Disneyland.

Huh.  A lot of the people got off before we got to Disneyland, even a lot of the kids.  I'm surprised.  At least I get a place to sit now!

I caught an earlier 43 bus than Google had expected.  I'd been hoping for that.  That should give me time to get off at Adams, make the bank deposit, get on the next bus and make it to work on time!

The nice lady with the special needs person in the wheelchair is back.  She isn't quite situated (she's almost doing the splits, while standing up holding on and leaning down looking through her bags) when a lot of other people get on the bus.  I'm pretty sure she needs to stay near him.  Last time he got upset during the ride and she had to calm him down.  I bet if there isn't a seat near, she'll stand next to him the whole way.  I decide to save the seat next to me so she can sit.  When she sits down she introduces herself as Pamela.  She's talking to me like I'm special needs too "We're both wearing our hats to protect from the sun" (said like you might to a child).  I wonder why?  Maybe it's for her charge to hear and learn from?  Several of the people who just got on are also special needs, and their companions.  As we drive down the road, I'm listening to their conversation.  They all know each other.  Pamela knows all of them.  It turns out all the companions are care-givers hired to escort the special needs people.

Pamela and her charge leave for Target.  The people left talk about how much change there has been in her charge, how much more he's interacting with the world now that she's helping him.

It's my stop!  Off to make the bank deposit!

Work's over.  I took the same bus I take to my daughter's over to Orange.  There was a huge traffic jam on the way.  It delayed the bus.  It's 7pm now.  That's when I was supposed to meet Scott.  Oh well, at least I'm at the bus stop now.  The park's pretty close.  I'm supposed to take the bike / jogging trail from here to the park.  I've been on it before, but I'm not sure where to get on.  This isn't it, it's a driveway into the apartment complex.  There it is!  There's the entrance!  Near the other bridge!

This is fun!!!   The entrance from the road to the bike trail is downhill, with no cars to worry about!  It's so much fun riding the scooter here!

There are a ton of people all around the amphitheater.  Scott and I decide to picnic on the sand of the volleyball court.  The fact that we still call our getting together "beaching" (named after all of the years we'd get together and walk on the beach,) and that we're sitting on the sand to listen to Abbey road has me tickled.

Wow!  They're great!  I feel like I've stepped back in time and am watching the Beatles!  I'm so glad we came!  What a lovely evening!
